SAKE SUSHI

SHREVEPORT, LA
Atmosphere: 5.0
Service: 5.0
Nigiri: 3.5
Rolls: 5.0

One day before my birthday, and one day after Master Dragon placed 1st at Grapplers Quest,  I had only one wish.  That being that the new sushi spot in town, Sake Sushi, would be delicious.  See,  I’m not lucky like the Dragon, I live in Shreveport which is not exactly the home of great sushi.  He’s out in Vegas,  one of the sushi capitals of America.  So I generally have to travel out of town to get some good playtime, and that’s ok because I’m a Nomad, but every now and then you just want to drive down the block and enjoy some high quality sushi.  This is what I’ve been lacking, this is what I’ve longed for, but with any luck Sake Sushi could remedy this, and make this birthday a good one.

Sake Sushi  is located in the fairly new shopping center Regal Court on Youree Drive - a great location!    As soon as you walk through the door, you can’t help but notice how they went all out on this place. There is a true vibe of Japan throughout this classy and modern restaurant.  A huge mural of Mount Fuji  surrounded by cherry blossoms  decorates the front entrance and inside there is  a large fountain with water flowing,  black lacquer walls and floors,  plenty of Japanese art and the most important part - an awesome sushi bar - what more do you need?  What excites me the most is I see only Asian chefs making the sushi, as well as all of the servers seem to be of Asian descent.  Never underestimate the importance of that, you don’t want Gary from Ruston making your sushi, it usually never works out the way you want it to.

Master Tea Flowers and I start our order with the nigiri sampler, which consisted of  5 pieces of assorted sushi to get us going.  The sampler included Red Snapper, Salmon, White Tuna, Tuna, and Himachi.  Every piece was very tasty and fresh and the presentation of the dish on a bamboo leaf was quite nice too.  After a discussion with the waitress I decide on my order of rolls.  I order the Rocky II Roll and the Tiger Roll.  The Tiger roll was made of salmon, tuna, avocado inside, and topped with salmon, tuna, eel, masago, and scallions and eel sauce.  Again, the fish inside was very fresh and flavorful.  It all blended very well together for a good flavor combination.  Now the Rocky II Roll on the other hand is one of those rolls that I call a diet breaker.  Meaning if you’re on a diet, don’t start thinking about it, because you’ll have to go get one.  This bad boy was stuffed with two pieces of shrimp tempura, snowcrab, avocado, masago, and then wrapped in a soy sheet with eel sauce on top.  I was going to order another it was so good but Master Tea Flowers suggested that I get something different so I did.  The waitress suggested to me the Maple roll.  Again, delicious. This one consisted of tempured crab stick and it was topped with salmon and eel sauce. Spicy sauce was placed around the roll and a huge mound of snow crab sat in the middle of the plate. I liked this because you could dip into the spicy sauce. A good thing because the sauce had a lot of heat to it.

I have to mention that this was only the 4th day the restaurant had been opened, but you would never know it because they have got it together. With their superior service and staff expertise, you would think this place had been around a long time. Kudos to the staff for being a top notch establishment. It was such a pleasant experience unlike another sushi restaurant’s opening in this area recently.

I am already thinking about my next visit to Sake Sushi. The waitress mentioned there was also a Rocky I, III and IV, which were not on the menu. This makes me ponder how many secret rolls Sake has up their sleeves! Shreveport is lucky to have gotten this sushi restaurant!

Sake Sushi All Rolled Up
The quality, price and freshness of the sushi in this restaurant cannot be beat by any other in town. Their prices are very affordable, which is a good thing because any sushi lover would want to sample everything they offer. Sake Sushi is now a weekly visit spot for me and I’m willing to bet it will soon become a local favorite.

Yes you are right! Shreveport finally has a top notch sushi restaurant. Me and my husband ate here the second night it opened, and it was great. I had the Salmon Naruto roll, and the Shrimp Tempura roll, and both are delicious. If you guy's get time go to the one in Alexandria, LA. They have a few different choices on the menu, but the same quality.

I think your review is spot on with Sake Sushi. I took the whole family last night, and all left happy. I even managed to get out of there for under 100 bucks. I like several places in town, but this one for right now stands as the top dog. Thanks PS GREAT SITE!!!!

I liked this place alot, but i still have to give Sushiko the leg up as far as sushi goes in Shreveport/Bossier area. The roles are tasty, but not as big as sushiko, and the sushi cuts are smaller as well. The flavor is real nice though, and the place has a great interior. It's good, but not the best.

Just getting back after finding out about this place thru this site. I just made a little list of 5 points i wanted to lay down as my overall feelings. 1. sashimi was nice and fresh but a little small. 2. The rolls are full of flavor, but i would like a little larger selection. 3. The decor was awesome. 4. The service was awesome. 5. Last but not least, I think it's priced very well. We had a lovely evening, and overall i think i may have found a place i can call my new sushi home. This place blows Ichiban out of the water btw, only reason i mention that, is because everyone seems to go there, but honestly this place is a lot better quality.

Sake Sushi has two very big pluses in my book: 1)they carry inari and oshinko, which no other restaurant in the area does; 2) they do hand rolls. Unfortunately, they don't carry saba, my favorite nigiri. Still, I'll definately eat there again.

Master White Tiger is dead on the mark here, i only ate this play because of the review, and I'm happy I did. Took the whole family over a week ago, and scored a few points with my brother in law who thinks he knows sushi. As far as the menu goes, the sushi was very good, and the rolls are great as well. The squid salad was killer though, oh yeah the snow crab salad was very good two, and cold. Nothing like warm crab salad ehhh. Great site, it's cool to know someone from Shreveport has put something together like this, and not a site on chicken fried steak.

Well i finally went to try Sake Sushi out after reading this review! I felt like i was in Miami all over again, because the sushi here was awesome, like sushi you get when living near the coast. I couldn't stop and tallied a 100 dollar bill for me and my guest! I finally feel like i have somewhere to get really quality sushi in Shreveport!

I could not agree more, oh master. Master road monkey and myself had his very first sushi experience there about a week ago. The sushi is exquisite, and the service is warm, friendly, and helpful. Prices are fantastic as well. Here's hoping that they have a liquor license when I return w/ my lovely wife. Cheers-

We have been eating here since it opened, and never left unhappy. Almost every week they have a new special roll menu, that never fails to deliver the goods. The staff is mostly Asian, so sometimes its difficult to communicate, but other than that:) Ask for Lee or his wife, they'll hook you up with the best flavors and freshest fish on the menu.
